Native to Mexico and the southern deserts of the United States, prickly poppy is an ornamental annual with excellent drought tolerance. It is known for its white flowers with red or yellow centers that grow atop some blue-green spiny leaves and foliage. Prickly poppy prefers moist, well-drained soils, and requires little maintenance due to its drought tolerance. Some gardeners choose to plant this wildflower for its effectiveness in attracting and nourishing honeybees. In addition, prickly poppy has deer resistant properties due to its sharp leaves. Typically blooms in the summer or fall. Prickly poppy can grow anywhere from 12 to 40 inches tall. Prefers full sunlight within environments similar to its native roots in the desert.
Scientific Name: Argemone platyceras
Each wildflower seed packet contains approximately 100 seeds.
