One-sided bluegrass is also known as Sandberg bluegrass, alkali bluegrass, big bluegrass, Canby’s bluegrass, Nevada bluegrass, Pacific bluegrass, pine bluegrass, slender bluegrass, wild bluegrass, and curly bluegrass. It’s a common native grass that grows all over North and South America, specifically in California. One-sided bluegrass is highly tolerant of drought while providing excellent fodder and erosion control. It’s also been used to revegetate California’s natural landscape, often after forest fires. Historically, indigenous Americans have used one-sided bluegrass for food. It can grow up to 12,500 feet in elevation.
