Scientific Name: Hordeum intercedens
Little barley, also known as bobtail barley and vernal barley, is an uncommon annual species of wild barely. It is native to southern California and Baja California in alkaline and saline soils near vernal pool habitats. Today, little barley is mostly found in the Channel Islands of California, creating small tufts of grass with green clusters.
